Ohio star receives first legacy scholarship
FINDLAY, OH — Mari-Yona Shannon, 14, has been chosen as the first ever recipient of the Kevin Minor Legacy Fund. Shannon has won $5,000 from the Minor Family which will go towards her tennis training, putting her one step closer to her college dreams.
“I would like to thank the Minor Family and the United States Tennis Association Midwest Section for selecting me as the first recipient of Kevin Minor Legacy Fund,” said Shannon. '“I would like to play tennis in college like the Minor sisters and this grant will help me with that goal by helping pay for more tennis instruction, tournaments and travel.”
Shannon says her ultimate goal is to play in the NCAA championship and win the singles title like “Brienne (Minor) did,” in 2017.
“We were so thrilled when we saw Mari’s application. She is not only a star on the court, but off,” said Jasmine Minor. “She exemplifies what it means and what it takes to be a successful student athlete. We can’t wait to cheer her on!”
Shannon recently took 2nd place in her District Qualifier and now will be heading to the Midwest Closed where she will compete for a shot at the National Championship.
